GLYDE - Functional Access Control IoT

The safety and comfort of guests and staff at a mining village are two important measures for companies seeking to attract high calibre personnel, investment and workflow efficiencies.

New access control technology designed specifically for mining villages focuses on these two measures - enhanced security and comfort - while providing valuable, real time data on work flow efficiencies, staff movements and room conditions.

Using the latest IoT capabilities, Glyde Access Control has been designed by tech experts experienced in facility management who identified several significant problems that could all be solved through a single integrated system.

Glyde was first rolled out at Searipple Village, a 1500-room accommodation facility in the Pilbara and has since demonstrated measurable improvements across all areas of village management.

Safety and Security

Glyde features smart locks with keyless entry and an app that makes check in and check out and general guest management seamless for users.

Guests receive their room information via email or SMS prior to arrival, which includes a site map and directions from the arrival point to their room. Even late room changes are communicated to the guest, immediately updated to the room to eliminate the need for room keys to be changed or swipe cards updated.

Rooms are accessed using either the app or a fob - a more cost-effective solution than swipe cards - which the guest keeps. No need to return fob to reception. Rooms are programmed to grant to-the-minute access to the accommodation allocated to the individual. After the set check out time, guests can no longer access the room, unlike systems that use keys or basic swipe cards. The issued Fobs or mobile app can be used on any Glyde managed site.

Where accommodation is shared, Glyde records who has entered the room to the second. This access control can be extended to cupboards and lockers to provide permanent guests secure access to personal items. The system can also advise when a door is opened without the app or fob.

Through data generated by sensors in each room, managers and human resource personnel can identify shift patterns and changes in routine that may alert them to sudden or gradual illness or behavioural concerns.

Comfort control

Unlike other integrated access control systems, Glyde has been designed around improving the overall experience of the guest. Climate control in a guests' room is important both for purposes of health and safety in preventing mould, and for their personal comfort. When present, guests have full control over their room conditions, upon leaving for their work shift, Glyde takes over. Room temperatures are automatically adjusted to site specific optimum settings when the guest is off-site or room is vacant.

"At Searipple Village, the guests, staff, operators and owners have been in full receipt of the suite of benefits and efficiencies afforded them by the investment in Glyde within the Village."

Glyde also uses a proactive dew point management system, which monitors climate figures inside and outside the room. By integrating the data with the climate control, mould and mildew is prevented from growing in even the most humid environments, creating a healthier environment for everyone.

The system also has the capability to capture facility usage by the guests. Access to wet & dry messes can be captured along with gym and pool and usage. Laundry usage can also be tracked… This information can assist all stakeholders with valuable insights to further enhance guests' comfort and overall experience on site.

Workflow efficiency and cost reduction

"At Searipple Village, the guests, staff, operators and owners have been in full receipt of the suite of benefits and efficiencies afforded them by the investment in Glyde within the Village."

The system directly improves workflow efficiencies and cost reduction across all areas of village management through:"

  • The removal of check in / check out services, saving time and labour.
  • Granular access data - managers can see how long cleaners are in each room providing insights to cleaner performance
  • Data at the edge relating to the use of shared space including access into areas such as icebox rooms, gyms and dining halls
  • Adaptable energy management protocols which can help to reduce energy usage by 3KwH per room per day under certain conditions.
  • Creating a healthier environment for sleep and downtime.
  • Reduces the risk of future OHS litigation relating to workplace accommodation through environmental management.
  • Providing valuable data to human resources managers, site managers, OHS managers as well as facility managers about the overall functionality of the village.
  • Real world access control and integrated environmental data for advanced analysis.

Compliance

By providing real time data across all functionalities, Glyde helps village management and facility owners meet a range of contractual targets relating to:

  • Security
  • Health and Safety
  • Environmental Impact
  • Cost containment
  • Efficiency Improvement
  • Technological Improvement

Endless possibilities

"Glyde is robust, it's survived three tropical cyclones. It has a proven ability to withstand Australia's harshest environments."

By offering a new way to manage guest services and gathering feedback from guests, Glyde's capabilities are endless. Once the system has been implemented, companies will be able to further customise captured data to enhance the overall guest experience. This may include menu and diet preferences, wellbeing and recreational activities, transportation requirements and personalised updates.

Future functionalities become available through software/firmware updates, eliminating the need to change existing hardware or equipment, offering a perpetual return on investment.
