OptiFroth principal metallurgist Dr Bianca Newcombe was named as the Dyno Nobel Exceptional Woman in Australian Resources.

Lucy McClean, chair of Women in Mining NSW and director of the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies, won the Rio Tinto Inclusion and Diversity Champion in Australian Resources Award.

The Newcrest Exceptional Young Woman in Australian Resources Award went to Megan Parry, ecosystem reconstruction advisor with the closure studies team at Energy Resources of Australia.

The Bloomfield Group Outstanding Australian Tradeswoman, Operator or Technician Award went to Inpex's Lindsay Gerrard, while BHP data science lead Joana Sousa won the Maptek Women in Resources Technological Innovation Award.

Rio Tinto Aluminium's Women in Leadership Program won the Newmont Excellence in Diversity Programs and Performance Award for increasing women in frontline leadership positions from 5% to 18% between the September quarter of 2022 and the March quarter of 2023.

The winners beat out finalists from around the country, based on state and territory-based awards.

The 2023 edition of the awards marked the 10th anniversary.

"The awards reflect not just the achievements of the finalists but the efforts across industry to encourage and promote increased female participation in the sector," MCA chair Andrew Michelmore said.

"Stories of winners will inspire women to join the industry and girls to take up STEM studies."

BHP president Minerals Australia Geraldine Slattery said the awards recognised the contribution of women to the industry, regional communities and the national economy.

"Workforce diversity will be key to creating a modern mining sector that realises our full potential, and it is terrific to see the growing number of women pursuing rewarding careers in mining across the full spectrum of technical and trade professions."
