The main thing keeping companies busy will be annual general meetings, with the calendar for the last two weeks of the month particularly packed.

One of the more interesting AGMs will be BHP's meeting in Sydney next week, where the miner is expected to come under fire from environmental activists.

The company will hold a strategy day on November 11.

A number of companies will take analysts and investors to site, mainly in the gold sector.

Newcrest Mining is hosting investors at its two-largest operations, Cadia in New South Wales and Lihir in Papua New Guinea.

Other companies holding site visits include Kirkland Lake at Fosterville, St Barbara at Gwalia, OceanaGold Corp in New Zealand and West African Resources at Sanbrado in Burkina Faso.

A large number of explorers have also flagged resource announcements.

Egan Street Resources is a stock to watch after it entered a trading halt of rumours of a rival takeover bid.

The take-up of an active Silver Lake Resources scrip bid has been poor to date.

Troubled Guyana gold producer Troy Resources will remain suspended at least until the middle of the month ahead of an announcement on the operational status of its Karouni gold mine.

In gold, there are a number of events happening this month.

The biennial NewGen Gold conference will be held in Perth, showcasing technical presentations about some of the world's best gold deposits.

The Gold Industry Group's successful Women in Gold debate will be held in Perth next Friday before hitting the road for the first time for Sydney and Melbourne events.
