Rand dulls Anglo profit

DIVERSIFIED global miner Anglo American has posted a record net profit of $US2.7 billion, with base metals the star performer in its portfolio, and gold (restrained by the strength of the South African rand) the only blemish.

The headline earnings (net profit) were up 59% on 2003. The financial results came in at the lower end of analyst expectations with Reuters reporting forecasts for net profit ranging between $US2.69-2.95...
