Porgera records 4-year high

THE Porgera gold mine in Papua New Guinea has hit its highest quarterly production level in four years with output of 249,057oz for the September 2000 quarter, largely due to development of a high-grade ore zone as mining advances through the former underground workings, as well as higher mill throughput. Joint owners MIM, Placer Dome and Goldfields said the production had been rising through 2000, with March quarter output of 205,328oz and 212,135oz for the June quarter.
