Emerald's Okvau project can proceed.

The Perth-based junior, which styles itself as the first-mover in the Southeast Asian nation, has been working to secure the 12sq.km licence from the Cambodian Ministry of Mines & Energy for some time and aims to begin development of a 100,000 ounce per annum plus gold operation this year.

The grant of the licence follows approval of the Okvau project by the Office of Council Ministers for the rezoning of the project area from being granted conservation status in the Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary to "sustainable use status", allowing the approval to be finalised.

The licence has an initial 15-year period with the right to two renewals of up to 10 years for each renewal.
