Northern Star mine to be suspended over seismic shocks

THE East Kundana Joint Venture, led by Northern Star Resources (51%), has confirmed the Raleigh underground mine will be placed on care and maintenance in April after a “significant seismic response following the firing of stoping panels” in the south of the mine rendered it unsafe.

Raleigh has been deemed too dangerous to work in.

Partners Rand Mining and Tribune Mining confirmed today the blasting led to substantial damage around the 6000 and 5949 levels, about 400m below the surface.
