Around 30 people have been made redundant from KCGM's open pit mining team.
KCGM general manager Cecile Thaxter said the cuts were disappointing, but necessary due to reduced mining rates.
"The rock falls and subsequent safety measures put in place have limited the availability of mining areas within the pit, resulting in lower mining rates," she said.
"We are working to minimise the number of affected positions by identifying redeployment opportunities within the company and beyond. And for those that can't be redeployed, we are providing them support to find new jobs."
Formal discussions are continuing with KCGM's Open Pit contractors to modify agreements to align with the changed mining conditions.
