Nickel's glass ceiling: letter

DEAR <I>Dryblower</I> and friends, I wish to add another spanner in the works that may not be so easy to see. I think that the demand for nickel is probably mainly due to the high usage of austenitic stainless steels (this means 18% chromium and 8-12% nickel).

I also suspect that the majority of that steel (304 or 316 etc) is specified because it is common and easy to buy. However, the makers of stainless steels can change their "recipe" quite quickly. These...
