A FAIR whack of the profits generated by the mining boom will formally disappear in just over a couple of hours, as Australia's resource sector opens its collective wallet and throws fistful after fistful of cash at the Melbourne Cup. But with the race yet to be run, there is still plenty of optimism about the day.
