FROM being one of Australia’s largest gold mines in the 1950s, works at the Morning Star mine have gone back to basics, with a trial mining program to start in 2017 under the auspices of new owner Mantle Mining.

The mine closed in 1960 after operating between 1934 and 1959, producing a reported 883,000 ounces gold at average grade of 26.6 grams per tonne over its lifetime.
