WESTGOLD Resources’ executive chairman Peter Cook has described proxy advisors who know nothing about the mining industry and who base their voting decisions solely on the issue of board independence as “brain dead”, suggesting they are “a whole group of people that don’t need to exist”.

Cook's comments came in reference to nearly 112 million proxy votes being cast opposed to operations director Steve Norregaard's re-election to Westgold's board - versus 169 million in favour.
