Funding still keeping juniors awake at night

DESPITE strong conditions in the mining sector, times are still tough at the small end of town, a panel at the WA Mining Club has heard.

A panel comprising Battery Minerals managing director David Flanagan, Sipa Resources MD Lynda Burnett, Musgrave Minerals MD Rob Waugh and Northern Minerals MD George Bauk said there was one key issue that was constantly on the minds of juniors: funding.

"Funding is the only thing that keeps me up at night," Waugh said.

As the market has improved, the competition for capital has only increased with other sectors like cryptocurrency and cannabis attracting speculative funds away from exploration.

Musgrave recently welcomed Westgold Resources as a major shareholder, and Waugh urged other juniors to be more flexible and not limit their options.

Funding is also a major concern for Sipa's Burnett, as is what she calls ‘short-termism' from investors.
