Lucapa diamond recovery excites

WESTERN Australia’s diamond sector has had a shot in the arm with Lucapa Diamond Company reporting it has recovered more than 1100 diamonds from its Little Spring Creek discovery, less than 24 hours after talk arose around the possible reopening of the nearby Ellendale mine.

Lucapa has recovered more than 1100 diamonds in a single hole.

Work at Lucapa's Brooking project recovered 18 macro-diamonds and 1082 micro-diamonds in a single hole, all from a single 178 kilogram sample.
 
Lucapa managing director Stephen Wetherall described the micro-diamond results from Little Spring Creek as "some of the best I have seen in the diamond space".
 
For comparison, the Little Spring Creek discovery in January recovered 119 micro-diamonds and macro- from an 87kg sample of drill core.
 
The latest hole was drilled in July just 30m north of the discovery hole within the same lamproite target.
