Greenpower talks up Pilgangoora potential

MINNOW Greenpower Energy has seen its shares soar in early trade off the news that trenching at its new flagship Morabisi lithium project in Guyana has found rock chips grading up to 2.63% lithium oxide at Turesi from grab samples.

The company, which has switched its focus from oil and gas to battery minerals, has been trenching for the first time at Turesi and Banakaru with results that executive chairman Gerard King said appeared to justify the company’s shift in strategy.

Three trenches for 803m have been dug at Turesi confirming in-situ, lithium bearing pegmatites in one trench.

While the granites and pegmatites have undergone intense tropical weathering, Greenpower said internal zoning was still evident in quartz-rich zones of lithium-bearing pegmatites with several samples over 2%, close to levels seen in Western Australia’s world class Greenbushes lithium mine where the average was 2.4%.

The company said it was encouraging to observe lithium-pegmatites in-situ together with transported/collapsed material over 180m in the trench, which it suggested could indicate a zone of pegmatites greater than 90m in true width, although the true test will be from drilling and not rock chipping.

“The initial trenching results indicate the presence of lithium analyses greater than those encountered in the Pilgangoora,” he said.

Pilgangoora’s resource is an average 1.25% LiO2, although rock chips more than twice that have been collected.

“The program at Turesi has linked radiometric traverse results, elevated lithium analyses from saprolite sampling and elevated lithium analyses from grab sampling of pegmatites exposed during the trenching,” King said.

“The widespread nature of the results encountered in weathered rock supports Greenpower’s initial view that the Morabisi project could rival the Pilgangoora province in size.” 

Further trenching at Turesi will help confirm the dip and strike of the pegmatites next month.

Trenching on the northern slope of Banakaru Mountain was also completed to follow up on rare earth anomalies – caesium, rubidium and beryllium – noted in previous stream sampling. 

One trench encountered greenstone rocks the entire length while the other encountered two zones of high kaolinite alteration between 68-90m and 470-490m.

Analysis is pending.

Greenpower’s crews have also established camp at Robello Creek to allow scintillometer surveys, ground penetrating radar and steam sampling towards Heavy Creek, with Banka drilling to evaluate the tantalum-niobium and rare earth element alluvials. 

Shares in the day-trader darling were up some 78% in early trade to 2.5c, valuing the company at $25 million.
