Palabora block cave undercut underway

THE Rio Tinto-operated Palabora copper mine in South Africa has kicked off the development of a large-scale underground block cave mine, which will eventually supersede the existing massive open-cut operation. Production from the block cave is due to get underway in the latter stages of this year.
