Base metals steal the spotlight

Base metal producers were in the spotlight today after better than expected Chinese economic growth, with a lot of volume in Alumina as analysts largely kept their forecasts steady, seeing the LME cash price at US$1645 a tonne in the fourth quarter, while zinc miner turned Goro nickel hopeful New Century Zinc and pig nickel player Nickel Mines found favour, although the market spurned nickel-copper miner IGO.
