ASX in the green

THE Australian Securities Exchange spent the day in positive territory, closing up about 1% in late trade on the news that the US and China will hold fresh trade talks mid-month, cementing early optimism triggered by political developments in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, and that momentum carried through the day.

The Metals and Mining segment was up just 0.1% at close.  Among the bigger stocks: Fortescue Metals Group was up almost 4% and Rio Tinto climbed some 2.5%; although BHP was off 0.5% while trading ex-dividend....
