DESPITE optimism over a US-China trade deal, base metals came under pressure overnight.

A stronger US dollar saw Friday's big winner, zinc, fall back below US$3000 a tonne.

Nickel, copper and tin were only slightly lower.

Lead bucked the trend, rising 1.4% to $1934.
