Harmony may pay extra tax on AngloGold's Free State mines

HARMONY Gold looks likely to have to fork out more than the R2.2 billion (A$367 million) it announced it would pay for AngloGold's four Free State mines in a joint venture with African Rainbow Minerals and Exploration Ltd.

The original price struck assumed the South African government would classify the sale as a "rationalisation scheme", slashing the amount of tax AngloGold paid.
