Esperance expansion gets nod

WESTERN Australia’s Esperance Port Authority will deepen the Esperance Port, upgraded the existing shiploading facility and build additional storage facilities to enable Koolyanobbing iron ore miner Portman Mining Ltd to expand production to 6-8 million tonnes per annum over the next five years.

Portman said an agreement signed with the EPA which opened the way for expansion of the port meant it had cleared another hurdle in its bid to increase Koolyanobbing ore production from the current level of 2Mtpa. It expects to boost this to 3Mtpa by the end of 2000.
