New Hay Point record

QUEENSLAND’S Hay Point Coal Terminal, south of Mackay, has set a new record for the highest tonnage of coal railed and received at the port in a single day.

The new mark set in February of 125,631 tonnes received from seven BHP Coal-managed mines in the Bowen Basin passed the previous record of 122,000t.

Fifteen trains, each about 2km long, transported the coal in 1572 80-tonne-capacity wagons. The HPCT is operated by BHP on behalf of the Central Queensland Coal Associates coal mine joint venture owners.
