NEW Century Resources has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the refurbishment of the Century zinc mine in Queensland, keeping the company on track for first production in the September quarter.

CIMIC Group subsidiary Sedgman was awarded the A$40 million EPC contract, expanding on the previously awarded early works contract.

Work under the contract comprises the refurbishment and commissioning works for the processing plant and Karumba port facility, which is expected to take around five months.

Ausenco has also been named as the preferred bidder for the $1.7 million concentrate slurry pipeline refurbishment and commissioning, with the formal award of the contract expected within a week.
