Myanmar flags copper potential

MYANMAR Metals has outlined a copper-rich resource potential within its Bawdwin zinc project in Myanmar that was not previously assessed.

This morning the company updated its inferred resource estimate to include 3.4 million tonnes at 3.12% copper, 5.7% lead, 2.8% zinc and 182 grams per tonne silver, within its total resource of 76.9Mt at 4.6% lead, 2.3% zinc, 0.24% copper and 118gpt silver.

The resources are all within open-pittable depths, and comprise a high-grade primary resource and low-grade halo, with the copper now known to be in discrete high grade zones rather than evenly distributed throughout the three main lodes.

CSA Global, which prepared Myanmar’s initial resource estimates last year, has spent several weeks examining the copper potential which was never targeted during lead-zinc-silver mining in the past.
