SOLGOLD has announced the much-anticipated maiden resource for the Cascabel project in Ecuador, with the initial figure starting to illustrate the potential that attracted the likes of majors Newcrest Mining and BHP.

The maiden MI 43-101 indicated and inferred resource for the Alpala zone is 1.08 billion tonnes at 0.68% copper equivalent, using a 0.3% copper equivalent cut-off.

The deposit contains 5.2 million tonnes of contained copper and 12.3 million ounces of gold.

Around 40% of the resource is in the indicated category.

The maiden resource includes a higher grade core of 120Mt at 1.8% copper equivalent, using a 1.1% copper equivalent cut-off, of which 60% is indicated.

If the cut-off grade is lowered to 0.9% copper equivalent, an additional 100Mt at 1% would be added to the high-grade core.
