MINERAL sands hopeful Sheffield Resources has leapt over another hurdle today, with Western Australia’s Environment Minister, Stephen Dawson, dismissing all appeals to the Environmental Protection Authority approval of the Thunderbird project in the Canning Basin.

Thunderbird was found to hold few risks for the Greater Bilby.

The minister dismissed all appeals on the works approval and the majority of appeals on the EPA's Oct0ber 2017 report after receiving a favourable determination from the WA appeals convenor, which considered appeals lodged by Pastoral region MLC Robin Chapple, Environs Kimberley, the Walalakoo Aboriginal Corporation and other parties.
 
The nine objections related to EPA and Department of Water and Environmental Regulation approvals for the project, located 95km north-east of Broome, relating to the potential impacts on fauna and flora, Aboriginal heritage; hydrological processes and inland waters environmental quality.
