For Sandfire it was the first time the company has been at PDAC, and managing director Karl Simich told MNN the company's business development team was very busy as a booth twice the size of BHP's and, more to the point, a growing cash pile, attracted attention.

A third project for the Sandfire portfolio is very much in the frame as exploration continued apace at the cash-generating DeGrussa operation and development of the Black Butte deposit in Montana potentially begins by the end of the year.

Simich, who also attended BMO, suggested North and South America were on Sandfire's radar, with Sandfire's building cash pile and debt-free balance sheet giving it plenty of firepower for any M&A activity.
