DRILLING veteran Ron Sayers is set to hang up his rods, with the Ausdrill MD giving notice after 30 years at the controls.

Sayers founded Ausdrill as a Kalgoorlie-based drilling contractor back in 1987, with the company these days described as multi-disciplinary mining services company operating in 10 countries.

Ausdrill will undertake a global search for a new MD with the aim being to have one in place over the next 12 months.

Meanwhile rival Swick Mining Services has been asked by Barrick Gold to bring in more rigs to Nevada after the major decided to “swap out” the incumbent operator at the Turquoise Ridge operation.

Swick, which is already operating for Barrick in the region at Cortez Hills, has been asked to provide seven rigs at Turquoise Ridge.

Three of the rigs are already at site, with another two due this week and the final two in mid-2018.
