WALKABOUT Resources has been hit by the recent legislative changes in Tanzania, but is hopeful the imminent arrival of the mining licence for its high-grade Lindi jumbo graphite project will lead to a higher valuation and a move to the development stage.

The company's chairman Trevor Benson told MNN on the sidelines of the Mining Indaba 2018 conference in Cape Town that it had, last week, met with Tanzanian officials, including the new commissioner of mines. 

This was a positive sign after a long delay, he said.

"From this meeting, we understand the commission has finally been formed … our meeting was positive and they realised they had to progress these applications and basically find a way to enact the new changes," he said.

The president of Tanzania, John Magufuli, has also got involved to speed up the process making Walkabout optimistic the licence will soon be approved.

"I'd be really annoyed if we didn't get it by the end of March," he said.
