Genesis and Spitfire have been flagging potential underground projects as has Excelsior, while Intermin's gold business is currently focused on monetising its various resources via toll treatment as it explores for the standalone-type ventures its three peers already have in mind.

Late last month Spitfire said drilling results had confirmed its Aphrodite project as a significant emerging gold asset that would form the cornerstone of a long-term gold operation in the north Kalgoorlie region.

Aphrodite's open cut and underground resources currently top 1.2 million ounces, with the underground prospectivity seen as key to the project's potential.
