The company has spent much of the past year working with CSIRO to produce high purity manganese (HPM) from Butcherbird ore.
HPM demand is rising as manganese is a key ingredient in batteries.
“Manganese in batteries has been around for 40 years. Nickel-manganese-cobalt batteries are the growth market,” Montezuma executive director Justin Brown told MNN.
The CSIRO work exceeded expectations, achieving industry specification for producing electrolytic manganese dioxide.
It’s prompted Montezuma to initiate a scoping study on the Butcherbird project, south of Newman in Western Australia.
