The metal rose almost 80% in the twelve months to October 2009, reaching almost US$18/oz. The price is being driven by investor sentiment rather than the fundamentals, which are still rather weak. Inflows into silver exchange-traded funds increased in 2009, and there is also burgeoning investor interest in silver coins.
