MSP Engineering has been appointed to complete a feasibility study into a further expansion of the Western Australian operation.

A A$320 million expansion, known as the CGP2 project, is currently underway to more than double capacity.

Greenbushes currently produces 80,000 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate equivalent, and the expansion, which is due to start commissioning in the second quarter of next year, will see capacity reach 180,000tpa, or 1.3 million tonnes of concentrate, by 2021.

MSP is the head contractor on that expansion, which comprises the addition of a second concentrator and crusher.
