ASX back in black

RESOURCE stocks lagged behind other sectors on the ASX today.

THE ASX 200 rose by 0.6%, with 155 stocks out of the overall list rising.

The Metals & Mining sub-sector dropped by more than 0.7%, thanks to plus-2% losses by BHP and South32.

Pilbara Minerals, Galaxy Resources and Iluka Resources each enjoyed circa-4% price rises.

The gold sector was marginally higher, largely thanks to a 3.7% jump by Resolute Mining.

The spot gold price sat at US$1327 or A$1694 an ounce this afternoon.

Northern Star Resources notably rose by 1.4% to a new all-time high of $6.72 (valuing the company at $4.05 billion) after agreeing to acquire Westgold Resources’ South Kalgoorlie operations for $80 million in cash and shares.<...
