THE ASX 200 rose by 1.1% today, with all sectors up after US stocks gained overnight.

As expected, the Reserve Bank of Australia left interest rates on hold at a record low 1.5%, and the dollar was little-changed at US77.77c.

The Metals & Mining sub-index rose by 1.9%, driven by a 2.1% jump in BHP shares.

Lynas shares had another good day, rising by another 6.8% on high turnover after yesterday’s strong half-year financials.

Other ASX standouts included South32, Alumina, Iluka and Syrah, which all gained more than 4%.

All seven ASX 200 gold miners rose, as Newcrest was upgraded to hold from sell by Deutsche Bank.
