RED 5 has beaten guidance in its first quarter of production from the Darlot gold mine in the Eastern Goldfields.

Darlot produced 17,777 ounces of gold – above budget of 13,000-16,000oz – at all-in sustaining costs of A$1291 an ounce.

The mine produced around 14,700oz at AISC of $1629/oz in the September quarter under former owner Gold Fields.

Red 5 said it had received encouraging results from the remnant mining program in the upper and mid levels of the mine, with stopes in the first three extensions to existing mining areas exceeding expectations.

The Darlot plant processed 130,944 tonnes at an average 4.21 grams per tonne gold and recoveries of 94%, with the plant reaching 100t per hour, above capacity, at times.
