Zinc prices were trading at $US2758.50 per tonne this morning after rising more than 70% over the course of 2016.

Globally, the federal government’s Resources and Energy Quarterly estimated zinc consumption had fallen 2.1% to 13.2 million tonnes in 2016 after a 2.9% cut in global refined zinc production – caused by the lower availability of zinc ore and concentrates.

“Longer term production of zinc ore and concentrates production will rely, in part, on the recovery in zinc prices being sustained,” the report said.
